Rossett Acre’s Open Day 2020
Open Day FAQs Document
The admissions criteria for securing one of the 60 Reception Class places is as follows:
- Children with a statement of special educational needs which names the school.
- Children and young people in Public Care for whom the school has been expressed as a preference.
- Children the LEA believes have special social or medical reasons for admission.
- Children living within the normal area of the school.
- Children living outside the normal area of the school.
The LEA decides on out of catchment places.
If there are not enough places for all the children in one of these preference groups, the LEA will give priority first to those with brothers or sisters at the school and then to those living nearest the school.
If there are not enough places for all those with brothers or sisters at the school, the LEA will give priority to children living nearest the school.
Parents wishing to visit the school before their child starts should contact the school office for an appointment. In addition two Open Days are arranged for parents and children. In order to minimise the gap between home and school we have a “preparation for school” session. The children are gradually brought into the life of the school and starting school becomes a natural step.NYCC Admissions Letter to Parents
In-Year Applications (1 November 2021 to 31 August 2022)
If you would like to change schools, or if you are moving into the area for example, you can apply for a school transfer, by making an in-year application.
The Red Kite Learning Trust and its Harrogate schools are part of the North Yorkshire County Council In-Year Co-ordination Scheme.
How to apply:
Parents and carers may apply at any time for an in-year school place. Application forms are provided and processed by North Yorkshire County Council.
You can apply for a place online using the North Yorkshire County Council in-year application form at: Changing schools and in year applications | North Yorkshire County Council
If you have moved to a new house, please upload evidence of the move with the online application.
Parents and carers will be notified in writing by North Yorkshire County Council of the school’s decision. This will be within 15 school days of your in-year application being received.
If the school is unable to offer a place, you may request for your child’s name to be added to the school’s waiting list held by NYCC, which will remain open until the end of December 2021. Where a place becomes available, this will be offered from the waiting list, based on the oversubscription criteria within the school’s admissions policy:

If your in-year application is unsuccessful, you will have the right of appeal against the school’s decision.
Appeals are arranged by North Yorkshire County Council and you can find the appeal form and information at: Appeal for a school place | North Yorkshire County Council
The appeal panel is independent of the school and council and the decision is legally binding. Appeals against a decision for an in-year application can be submitted at any time during the school year.
