Excellence and happiness for all

Year 5

The Year 5 Class Teachers are Miss Matthews and Miss Kirkwood.

Teachers

Miss McKeown teaches Miss Kirkwood’s class on a Wednesday afternoon. Miss Dolan teaches Miss Matthews’ class on a Tuesday morning and a Wednesday afternoon. Mr Latty and Miss Illingworth also support us in the classroom.

Please feel free to catch the class teacher at the end of the day, or make an appointment with them. You can leave them a message either on Class Dojo or in your child’s home/school book.

Curriculum:

We teach the National Curriculum 2014 objectives and have several cross-curricular themes throughout the year: The Ancient Romans, South America, Kenya and The Edwardians.

  • Year 5 Long Term Plan 2019-20
  • Homework:

    Each week your child must:

Read aloud at least 3 times
Complete MyMaths.co.uk homework or English homework (due in each Monday)
    Practise times tables
    Practise the given spellings
    Occasional Talk Homework

In addition to this, they will be given a selection of creative projects to choose from. We would expect them to complete at least one per half term.

Other resources your child has access to include Times Table Rockstars, Purple Mash and Read Theory.

    Targets:

Maths Targets – these are based on Superhero Times Tables. Progression is as follows:

    Superhero Tables Facts
    Batman x2 x5 x10
    Hawk Girl x3 x4
    Thor x6 x7 x8
    Black Widow x9 x11 x12
    Superman All with division
Catwoman All with place value – HTU and tenths
    Ironman 2 digits x 1 digit
Wonder Woman Fractions, decimals and percentages of quantities

English Targets – Each child is given an individual writing target to work towards. They are encouraged to try and achieve that target every time they write and after demonstrating their ability to use the target four times independently, they can tick it off and are given a new target. Children are involved in deciding upon their targets.
